Credit After Bankruptcy

You can re-establish credit after bankruptcy. Credit will be offered but may be more expensive than before, and available with lower limits. Many people who have just been through bankruptcy, are solicited for new credit cards. Some companies will allow you to keep their credit cards by reaffirming the balance of the card and by entering into a new agreement. Credit should be used carefully and you should pay on time. Debtors may qualify for a loan on the same terms as if they had not filed for bankruptcy, approximately 18 to 24 months after the bankruptcy was discharged. This is contingent upon various factors including loan down payments, the debtor’s new credit history (i.e. new credit cards and loans which have been timely paid), and monthly income.
